| By Nour Al-Huda North Korea threatened , on Saturday, to "destroy" American spy satellites if Washington tried to launch "any attack" targeting its satellite, which it launched 10 days ago, and said it would consider such a step as a "declaration of war." The Korean Central News Agency quoted a statement by a Defense Ministry spokesman as saying that Pyongyang would respond to any American intervention that violates its country’s rights in space by taking “self-defense measures to limit the ability of American reconnaissance satellites to operate or destroy them.” Since North Korea launched its Malig Yong-1 satellite last week, Pyongyang said it was able to monitor key sites in the United States and South Korea. This was its third attempt to put a spy satellite into orbit after two previous failed operations this year. Experts believe that placing a reconnaissance satellite in orbit would improve North Korea's capabilities to collect intelligence information, especially over South Korea, and provide important data in any military conflict.
